WOTC Delays AD&D 1e Reprints to mid-July

Judging by this page on the WOTC site, the AD&D 1e core books reprint promised for mid-April (with much hype earlier this year) have been delayed until mid-July. I have no idea why, but this continues to erode what little confidence I have in WOTC to do what they say they will do.

So. They are delayed. I am not sure why this is a cause for drama. I can think of a dozen reasons why they might be delayed. Printer proofs, or maybe it is more advantageous for the company to make their contributions to the Gygax fund after July 1 when a new fiscal cycle starts. Or naybe they want them closer to GenCon or maybe demand is greater than anticipated and the printer needs more time. I could go on but this is delay not a sign of something else.

Did they provide any explanation for the delay? If not, bad form WOTC. I'm going to have to re-evaluate my decision to buy these.

@Aaron: No explanation or even announcement that I could see, they just changed the release date on the pages for the three books from April to July. I've seen two or three supposedly "from WOTC sources" type explanations offered on message boards, but they don't match up.

While I'm not insanely happy about this (my girlfriend got them for me as a birthday Present, that I'll be getting two months after my birthday) I'm not sure how this is "the worst thing ever" ™. After all Delving Deeper has been delayed about a year now and I'm still not throwing in the towel on Brave Halfling Publishing.

According to their Facebook page on Wednesday
"A quick update for those as excited as me (or more excited) about the 1E core book reprint and premium treatment. The process behind re-mastering the original materials unfortunately pushed back the release date a bit. But have no fear – I do have a date for you. We're looking to get out the 1st Edition Premium Players Handbook, Monster Manual, and Dungeon Master's Guide on July 17th, 2012."

It's not a very detailed explanation, but it's not a silent slippage of the date.

@Instantapathy: Thank you for that info. I'm not much of a Facebook user so I expect such things to be on a company's web site, not on Facebook with the (seemingly millions of) other items from friends buried in my FB news feed.
